Afternoon Run

A friend of mine, from high school, has worked hard, using diet and exercise (including some running) to lose quite a bit of weight. A few weeks back, he asked me if I'd run his first race (a 5k) with him; was more than happy to!

He picked the 2017 Eye Run (fitting, as his dad is an optometrist).

He did an awesome job! I was his pacer/rabbit, and then also carried water for him (and dumped some on him, as he got a bit warm). He didn't falter @ the end, when I told him to pick it up during the final kick.

He'd run the distance a few times, had never gone under 30:00; so, his 28:30 today was not only a PR, but a big jump in time for him as well. Once he started breathing normal again, he was all thanks! :)

Had lot of fun with Barb this weekend and at the game last night with Barb and Jen. Couldn't pass up a short run on this gorgeous morning. My time for the run was 53:53, which makes me happy :). Another day this week, I ran 1:09:09. Ha!

Nice run at the Z, where I saw Rudy and Booty; plus saw hOg and company and ran with them a bit to finish off! Great to see these folks on my first full day back in town!

I got back home yesterday afternoon from London with a layover in Chicago. I had the trip of a lifetime, but it is nice to be home as well. After the Berlin Marathon, I did a Globus guided group tour of England, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland; plus solo excursions to Wavendon, England (to see the Strawbs) and to Liverpool, England (birthplace of the Beatles). I did easy runs of 3-6 miles in each city I stayed at. I felt I had a very good race, and loved all my travels following it. The Berlin Marathon was the KICKER of the entire trip; favorite city visited was Edinburgh, Scotland; favorite evening out was seeing the Strawbs at the Stables in Wavendon--with a post show meet and greet with the band and a photo with leader Dave Cousins!

Of course, while I was away I was sorry to hear of the tragedy in Las Vegas, plus the untimely death of Tom Petty. I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in '85 and '92 at the old Civic Auditorium for great shows presenting his fine songwriting.

Song of the day: "The Waiting" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...my fave song of theirs.
