Pedalar's Jamboree

This is a bicycle and music festival from Mineola to Shenandoah. Ann and I started from her house in Omaha, which is how we got 60 miles.
Bands were scheduled in Malvern, Imogene, and the Frazee farm in-between. It was next to impossible to hear all the sets because they didn't give you enough time to get to the next stop. But we did catch three bands along the way.
Three bands were scheduled the evening at the park in Shenandoah but we only caught the headliner - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Don't know how they got them there but it was a great show.

Started off running into the Leanhorse 31/50/100 runners. Started to feel bad at mile 23 and was ready to quit at 28 after a 3 mile section next to a 4-lane highway uphill. Somehow pushed on and caught a second wind to get closer to the finish. Entered a valley out the end which may be the last 19 miles.

Field of Dreams XC workout. Warm up 2.5 miles. Roughly 4 mile tempo in 32:55. Cool down 7.5 miles mostly on roads.

Great group. Slower than I'd hoped but the 4 laps were pretty consistent.

Walked 10 miles in Noanet Woods and Hale Reservation at a little slower than 15:10 pace.

Usual strength circuit at Y, 3 sets of 10.

Incredibly happy with this race! Given a recent injury that I'm not 100 percent over, and the missing or reduced training from that, at this point I think it was the best I could have run a half today. Thanks to God, my family and friends (including all of you), and special thanks to Coach Mo!

I NEGATIVE SPLIT the race!! I'm pretty sure that the only other race I have done this was the Carlsbad CA half in 2013. Even that race's negative split was partially due to conditions--it was an out and back with a slight tailwind on the return. I purposely did some tactics this morning for the negative split, including holding back some in the first few miles. Truly this paid off for me today in the 2nd half and the last few miles! For most races, I am totally out of gas with a few miles (or more) to go...not the case today. I felt much better throughout the race as a whole, and tried to kick it in a bit in the last few miles. Kudos to the organizers, the volunteers, spectators and the police for a well-oiled race.

It was wonderful to see Kaci, Miguel, Tim McG., Leanto Bob, Roy W., Lori L. (Kaci's mom) and Kaci's grandmother before and/or after the race! Congrats to Kaci on her WIN (full), Lori on her age group (full), Miguel 3rd (half), Bob 11th (half), Roy 10th (half)! Amazing day for these folks! I was chatting with Kaci and Lori who ran the full and I commented that the weather for the half was good, but after I finished the sun came out and got quite a bit hotter. They agreed, and STILL tore it up!

The kicker of the whole thing was driving back and seeing Dordio in his car as I was almost home! I honked a few times before he heard me, he smiled and gave me a thumbs up! Right back at ya!

Song of the day: "Night" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The guitars and drums open with a flourish before Clarence's unmistakable saxophone. Bruce's lyrics expand on a theme of celebration of life after work. Feeling it now :)

Super nice morning. Ran by a yoga festival. Could have hopped in a 5k with them if I had timed it right. Saw a gaggle of turkeys early on. Best part about the run is that I could have kept going.

Bryan put out the early call. Jason, Matt and I followed suit. Still on the bike, but the leg is feeling better. I wouldn't have missed this. I just have to be around it. Couple more days rest. I have so much energy, it's not even funny. Guys say this hammy issue could be a blessing in disguise. Even more of a sick joke---my pool closes Monday for cleaning...for a week!! Torture! I'm gonna be nuts.

Happy Weekend.

Conditions not really ideal today. Wore my headlamp and pack. Pack slowed me down. Headlamp view was distorted from the fog. Brush and weeds were pretty overgrown. Dirt, mud, blah blah. I had a dude in a black escalade in a dark parking lot ask if I needed a ride. No sir, I would not like a ride.
