No Ralston Fun Run for Carl this year; gimpy foot, from the trail twisting over the weekend will keep me from racing / fun running.

Never fear! A chit chat w/ Betsy led to a Betsy, BigSu, Mollak & CJS friendship recap run on the (classic) Super 8 course.

Vacation has wrecked me. Felt, during the run, that all the Branson hills, excess eating and poor sleeping just broke me. Took everything I had to just keep up. Post-run, I was +12 pounds from vacation! But, guess what? It's totally worth every empty calorie, every extra pound. NO regrets!

Tri-City World Championship and Celebrity Death Match - aka the July 4th Gibbon group ride. Always a strong group. Managed to stay in or close to the lead group most of the way to Minden. The mist was bad enough going into town, I backed off for the last mile because I couldn't see through my glasses! Regrouped in Minden, but I got a flat just out of town. I barely had the tire off the bike and was getting the tube when others were assisting in the repair. Back on the road quickly. Things got a little spread out with a bit of a tail wind to Hwy 30. I caught back up to Drew and Bob just in time to turn on Hwy 30 and the legs didn't have enough to stay with them. Good ride overall!

Going in I had my doubts...just feeling kinda crappy with some mild groin pain, queasy stomach. But as it turned out, I was pleased that I showed some strength in the hills w/o pressing too hard. Really didn't fall apart that badly either. I have to pat myself on the back for the second mile in sub-6:00. Bob H and I swept the 50-59 for Team Vidlaks/Karays/VI. Ran 17:33 last year.

Love the Ralston fun run. 7 members of my wife's family ran this today. May have just started a tradition. My wife got 1st in her age bracket. She's tickled pink.

My left foot is still out of commission, so I was just "fun running" this morning. Towards the end of the first loop I had a man in all spandex give me a "on your left" warning then promptly cut me off rounding the corner. We were the only 2 there at the time. I put my hand on his arm and told him "fun run buddy, plenty of room out here". He responded with "get on the outside then". Touche' I guess, but I decide that I didn't care if my foot fell off, but he wasn't going to beat me. I followed him for a couple blocks and then decided to pass him in the hills. I told him to "keep it up, you're almost there" as I passed him. I also obnoxiously clapped for him when he finally crossed the finish line. Tool.

Kudos to my wife today, small race, but very proud of her.
