Easy jog along trail and river in Hutch to see if I can race tonight. No real complaints...some back soreness and also right hip but I think they will loosen up. I think I'll go. Last year's winning time was 19:00.

Got to New London with plenty of time to jog/walk the entire course. A few rolling hills in the first mile, second mile is flat and protected on a trail, and then a couple little hills to the end and a finish on the track. Mile cooldown on the track after. Very satisfying couple days of racing. Back is still mildly sore but not noticeable while running.

Went out with lead pack of a couple high schoolers and one other guy and hung onto them for almost two miles. Then it started getting tough and they pulled away. 5:48/5:54/6:11 Conditions were not great and course had some mild hills so I know I can go faster, esp. since I raced last night. Nice event on a less than perfect day (even a couple flurries). Ran into my old running buddy from the 70's Leon Lentz...always great to see him. He's my original running role model.

Sappy time y'all! Happy 10 years to me, as I have the distinct pleasure to be married to my wife. I started working at a small investment firm almost 17 years ago. The first time I met Abbie she had on a borderline work appropriate wildly pink skirt on and uncontrolled curly hair. She was ownin' it. A Post-It note on her desk that read "Big Trouble, Little Vanguard". Even when we wern't dating, we were always together. Had the office rumor mill spinning. Our first date was to a Buffalo Wild Wings to watch a Duke game. Our first movie was JackAss and our first concert was Incubus. Moved in together 1 month after we started dating. Her parents helped and nobody questioned a thing. We got married in the beautiful Rococo Theatre in Lincoln and served Godfathers Pizza for dinner in the fanciest way you could possibly imagine. We still have people to this day compliment us on our wedding. We laugh at each other, constantly. Our 2 children take great joy in doing that as well. So happy 10 years to me, as I'm the lucky one.

Put out the call last night, and the whole darn group was in. Nine strong. Perfect morning. Took every ounce of willpower I had to turn early. Need to save my legs for tomorrow. Matt and I are headed to the grand town of Bucyrus, KS in a couple hours for Running With The Cows tomorrow. Matt and Carolyn are pacing, I'm an alternate. I'm doing 7 miles before the race, then just keeping a "slow" pace for the 13.1. More willpower at work. :) For an even 20. Should be fun. Looking forward to getting the heck out of town.

Happy Friday the 13th, people.

Omaha [20160513]: Friday the 13th

Met Mollak for a Friday the 13th DT13; some Mollak knee tightness led to an early turn, a ride on the Dundee Subway AND a Macy (and Jimmy?) sighting... and a "body on the right".

Happy Friday the 13th urrbody!

  • carljsamuelson carljsamuelson ^neither of us felt like it was in imminent danger / seemed like if it shook it's head (really applied itself) that it'd be free of the cup.... mainly didn't want to chance getting sprayed.

Another nice morning. Yesterday I was headed to a Grand Island to pick up some fliers for work, leaving at 7:30. Got a call at 8:00 that they wouldn't be done until noon. Took the back roads back to the office, hadn't been on those roads for a long while. Saw lots of wild turkeys, two deer, and one buffalo loose and on the run at a feed lot. Counting laps at the Big Ten track meet tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday, with a little baseball and soccer mixed in. Have a great Friday.

Started with Carl and intended to do the Friday the 13th DT13, my left knee had some tightness from the race last week and I didn't want to risk getting too far from the cars. No pain, just tightness. Seemed to fade during the run. We saw a dead opossum, a skunk with a cup stuck on it's head, and a fox in Elmwood Park. Quite an interesting run through the city today.
  • carljsamuelson carljsamuelson Shortened DT13 be damned... we wouldn't have been able to see the skunk or (probably) the fox!
